On the 12th Dec Rachel Reeves headed up to Darlington to meet with regional mayors to talk about their plans to make every part of Britain better off, and to visit Darlington Economic Campus (DEC) which was hosting the first Growth Mission Board to be held outside London.
The people in this photo are not from ‘across the UK’, they are from across England.

From left to right: Andy Burnham (Mayor of Manchester, England), Ben Houchen (Mayor of Tees Valley, England), Oliver Coppard (Mayor of South Yorks, England), Richard Parker (Mayor of West Mids, England), Tracy Brabin (Mayor of West Yorks, England) John Flint (English banker, Chief Executive of the UK’s National Wealth Fund), Kim McGuinness (Mayor of North East, England), Steve Rotheram (Mayor of Liverpool, England), Rachel Reeves (English MP and Chancellor), Nik Johnson (Mayor of Cambridge & Peterborough, England), David Skaith (Mayor of Mayor of York and North Yorks, England) and Claire Ward (Mayor of East Mids, England).
Naturally, this tweet infuriated many Scottish and Welsh people. When UK parliamentarians talk about England as ‘the country’ it is understandably divisive. Members of our multinational, union parliament should not refer to England as ‘the country’. If you mean England, then just #SayEngland.
My favourite response was this meme.
